World Book Day

Our Patron of Reading, SF Said, shared World Book Day with us, helping to launch our Fortismere Reading Champions competition.

The Reading Champions competition was so successful last year and SF got students started by talking about all the different elements that make a book enjoyable, riveting, exciting and un-put-downable!  This is going to help them with the presentations that every one of them will be doing about a book that they have loved.  During library lessons over the next couple of weeks, each student will be given a long and varied reading list from which they must choose at least two books to read.  They will be given the opportunity to prepare a little something to convince the rest of the class that their book is the one that everyone should read – last year we had some wonderfully original presentations that included stop-motion photography, iPhone films, powerpoints and posters.  On 29th June, we will be holding a special evening chaired by SF where the winning students will attempt to convince the invited audience that their book should be Fortismere’s Favourite 2017.  Exciting bookish times ahead!  Take a look at SF’s blog http://bit.ly/2m2dJ8z which describes our WBD afternoon in more detail and which has some excellent hints and tips for our students.  He’s always happy to answer questions via the comments link.
