SCHOOL REBUILDING PROGRAMME

Fortismere is part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuild Programme. Learn more about the overall national programme here.   We will provide regular updates to our community on how the project is progressing on this page. This is a long-term project and we will give updates when there are new things to share. Please check back here as the project progresses.

Update October 2026

We are excited to share an update regarding our ongoing involvement in the Department for Education (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme. We are currently wrapping up the final stages of the initial phase of the project and expect to move into Phase 2 shortly, which will bring an increasing amount of activity and progress to the project.

There is a strong potential that some learning spaces will temporarily move into high-specification accommodation on site as part of this build. We want to reassure families that our generous 20-acre site gives us a fantastic advantage. If required, the DfE will construct a modern, high-quality “learning village” right on campus. These temporary spaces are bright, spacious, fully fitted classrooms equipped with high-spec IT integration, dedicated science and humanities spaces, and full amenities. Drawing on best practice and site visits to other successful schools, child safety, comfort, and top-tier educational standards remain our absolute top priorities.

Update March 2026

We were notified that we were part of this project in the Summer of 2024. We are currently in the feasibility phase, and by the end of this stage, we will have a much clearer picture of what the design of our new school will look like and where the new building will be located.

Even at this early stage, it's clear that the DfE has significant experience in managing complex school rebuilds. They share our ambition for Fortismere and are committed to working with us to ensure they deliver a school where our vision can be fully realised.

This is a unique project. We are a mainstream school with specialist provisions, and we very much represent a school community model for the future of inclusive education. We are also reassured that the DfE regularly undertakes these projects with a distinct focus on creating minimal disruption to the smooth running of the school. We are fortunate to have a large site, and we anticipate that once the build is underway, there will be minimal impact on our students and staff.

The DfE leads on community communications as part of their rebuild projects, and they will be in touch with our school and local community in due course.

We intend to provide regular updates to our community on how the project is progressing on this page. This is a long-term project and we will give updates when there are new things to share.
