OUTCOME OF THE CONSULTATION ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS

The governing board ran a consultation at the end of last year on proposed changes to sixth form entry requirements to apply from September 2027.

The proposal was to change requirements for the 3 A-level pathway from 5 x grade 5s (including English and Maths) to an average point score of 5.5 (with English and Maths at grade 5 or above) and to offer a broader range of study pathways.

There were 7 responses and governors are grateful to everyone who took the time to share their views.  Several respondents welcomed the changes, with one stating they "fully support the proposed changes" and describing them as "an excellent idea".

Some respondents expressed concerns about students with special educational needs and Education Health Care Plans.  Governors noted these concerns but admission to the sixth form for students with an EHCP is not covered by this policy but by a separate statutory process set out in the SEND Code of Practice.

Concerns about late developing neurodiverse students were also raised by a respondent.  The governing board recognises that students develop at different rates and in different ways but the range of sixth form pathways is designed to ensure each student can access a programme of study where they will be challenged, supported and successful.

Having carefully considered the responses, the governing board has decided to adopt the proposed changes to the sixth form entry requirements. These changes will take effect for entry from September 2027.  A copy of the determined Admissions policy 2027 is available here.

The governing board is grateful for the responses received and will continue to review sixth form provision to ensure it meets the needs of our diverse student community.
