PARENT GOVERNOR Election June 2026
Thank you to the four candidates who have decided to stand in our parent governor election. There are two vacancies. Election statements written by the candidates are published below.
As a reminder, the Board's role is focused on support and scrutiny rather than day-to-day operational management (delegated entirely to the Headteacher and her team). Acting on behalf of the school community, governors look at all aspects of the school’s work, including:
- Curriculum and academic achievement
- Personal development and pastoral support
- Safety and wellbeing of all
- Resources management (staff, finance and premises)
We are looking for governors with the commitment and life experience to help us fulfil our role and navigate some major upcoming developments, including new government policies, funding pressures, and building our brand-new school.
Arrangements for voting in the election will be sent out by 8th June. Contact the Clerk to governors, Ms Sam Murray at smurray@fortismere.org.uk with any questions.

Isabella D'Emilio I am a year 8 parent and strongly believe in the ethos and values of the school. I want to serve as a governor to help the school achieve its aims and maintain a broad, enriching curriculum that enables all students to flourish and reach their full potential. I bring a diverse range of skills and experience, including a background in journalism and PR across the charity and higher education sectors, giving me insight into local authority functions and education. As a reporter, I have covered numerous local and community issues, including those affecting schools. I have also previously served as a trustee for a migrant and refugee charity. I have strong experience in strategic planning, delivering on priorities and objectives as well as issues and reputation management in complex organisations, and overseeing digital communications across teams. I am keen to work inclusively and collaboratively within the school community, advocating for parents and families, strengthening communication between trustees and the school leadership, and supporting the school in achieving its goals. |

Nick Gallent I would like to contribute to Fortismere School's ongoing development and improvement. I have prior experience as a School Governor and a Charity Trustee. I am currently a professor of urban planning at University College London (UCL) and teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, having been involved with university admissions for many years and having qualified as a university teacher almost 30 years ago. I was head of a planning school with 600+ students for almost 10 years. Although I have spent my entire professional career in the higher education sector, I am also a chartered town planner and chartered surveyor. I believe that I could make a contribution to strategy and to operational matters. At another school, I was geography link governor and contributed to careers events across the built environment professions. |

Charlotte Marceau I have three children at Fortismere and although there have been some ups and downs, our family is proud to be part of this community. As such, I would be delighted to become a parent governor and support the school in improving the experiences of students, teachers and staff. I bring an unusually broad set of professional skills to the role as I had three different careers. I spent 12 years as a management consultant, specialising in procurement, risk management and project management. These skills are directly relevant to the strategic and operational challenges of running a large school. I then retrained as a secondary school teacher and went on to become a pastoral lead in a mainstream secondary. Wanting to develop further specialist knowledge, I spent a year as a teaching assistant in a local special school supporting young people with a wide range of learning difficulties (including autism). I am now about to complete a Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at UCL. For the past four years, I have been working in CAMHS with young people and their families, often liaising with schools. This training has given me in-depth knowledge of child development, mental health and safeguarding. Finally, I have served as Chair of a local pre-school committee, and I understand the responsibilities of governance first-hand. I would like to use my experience to support Fortismere's strategic and operational vision, its educational ambitions, and the pastoral support it provides to many local children and families. Above all, I want every child, and staff, to experience school as a place of safety, opportunity and pride. |

Sinead Queeney As both a parent and an experienced education professional, I believe I can make a meaningful contribution to the strategic development and continued success of the school. I previously served as a Parent Governor at a local primary school from 2021 to 2025, where I was Link Governor for SEND and Safeguarding. This experience strengthened my understanding of statutory responsibilities, accountability, and the importance of ensuring that all pupils - particularly the most vulnerable - are effectively supported. As a primary school teacher, I bring current, practical knowledge of the education system. My experience in subject leadership includes analysing data, identifying gaps, and implementing strategies to raise attainment, enabling me to contribute effectively to school improvement at a strategic level. I am also strongly committed to pupil wellbeing. As a qualified mental health and wellbeing coach, I am passionate about supporting young people’s emotional development alongside their academic progress, and I recognise the importance of this within a whole-school approach. I am committed, reflective, and able to provide both support and constructive challenge to help secure the best outcomes for all students. |
