FINCH

FINCH Alternative Provision

Our Vision

At FINCH, we pride ourselves on transformative education which enables future success. We encourage independence, confidence and a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Our ambition is for students to engage positively with their learning experience to become life-long contributors to society.

FINCH is rooted in Fortismere's values: we are ambitious for every child, we celebrate diversity and belonging, we build relationships on kindness and trust, and we prepare our students for their futures. Our provision ensures that students who need additional support at key moments in their education receive personalised, high-quality teaching in a nurturing environment that maintains academic rigour and fosters personal growth.

Our Values: C-O-R-E

We have clearly defined core values which set out our terms of practice and inform the FINCH community about how we work together to fulfil our vision.

Communication – Verbal, written, active, interpersonal, conversational, and communication which supports learning.

Open to change – Developing a growth mindset, encouraging challenge, curiosity, problem-solving – resulting in success.

Respect – Encouraging positive relationships, developing self-respect and respect for others.

Encouraging kindness – Fostering an environment of belonging, support, empathy and compassion. Celebrating all acts of kindness.

These values mirror Fortismere's commitment to curiosity and creativity, relationships built on kindness and trust, and taking pride and responsibility in our work.

Our Aims

  • To have a positive impact on the student
  • To support knowledge and behaviour growth through well-planned and relevant lessons
  • To establish respect, kindness and hard work
  • To prepare students for their return to their next academic chapter
  • To encourage an understanding of the value of education
  • To communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • To develop work through community links
  • To celebrate success

Our Inclusive Approach

At FINCH, we use the graduated approach with targeted interventions to ensure every student receives the support they need. Case studies demonstrate the impact of teaching and targeted interventions and our work is strategically overseen to ensure students achieve successful outcomes and are ready to progress confidently.

We recognise that we show commitment and courage by doing what's right, not what's easy, and FINCH exemplifies this by providing an alternative pathway that maintains high expectations while adapting to individual needs.

Outcomes and Success

FINCH students benefit from:

  • Personalised learning that addresses individual barriers to achievement
  • Strong pastoral support and positive relationships with staff
  • Academic progress through a curriculum designed to re-engage and inspire
  • Successful transitions back to mainstream education or to appropriate next-stage destinations

We foster independence, confidence, and a sense of social responsibility within the school, the local community and beyond, ensuring that every FINCH student leaves equipped for their future.
