Director of Music

Director of Music

This is an exciting  new role for someone who has a strong background in terms of leadership of school music.  As important is the ability to inspire outstanding participation in musical activities both outside the classroom and across the community. We are looking for a an experienced leader to oversee and develop our school music department but also take on the strategic leadership of our community music centre (FMC), which in its tenth year is a thriving  hub of creative musical activity.  We are looking for a talented leader to unite both aspects of this role so that our students have the very best opportunities to make music at school and as part of our local music community.

Our aim as a school is to transform the lives of our students through a broad and personalised curriculum and through the many enriching experiences made available to them.  The development of school music is at the heart of our vision.

Staff and students alike are rightly proud to be part of our inclusive and aspirational community. We are truly reflective of our local area and as a community school enjoy a great reputation both locally and nationally. We are proud of links we have with international partners for example working closely with a school in Delhi and being one of the first schools in the country to be part of the Mandarin Excellence Program.

Music is housed in its own purpose built centre with teaching rooms, numerous practice rooms and a music hall for performances. The rooms are well equipped with instruments and IMacs allowing for both music and music technology teaching. Music and Music Technology are taught at all Key Stages in the school and our students achieve above national results each year.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be required to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS prior to appointment.

If you have the innovation and drive to further develop the profile of music at Fortismere and are keen to engage in music-making in a creative community where the expressive arts are truly valued then we would love to hear from you.
