Alexandria's motto is 'Aim. Achieve. Amaze' We believe that this supports the whole school ethos and reinforces that every student has the opportunity to try, succeed and believe in their own ability. Being at Fortismere should be a two-way process. The students have the opportunity to add to the school and to the community as a whole as well as receive a first class education whist also caring for the environment in and out of school.
This is one of the reasons we have altruism as our college ethos. Students are encouraged to support and help others without expecting anything in return.
Our tutors and co-tutors are dedicated and always there to help and support the students through the trials and tribulations of five years in secondary school. Tutor time covers many areas in which the students can express their opinions and learn about important issues such as well being, current affairs etc. Each tutor group runs an assembly of their choice giving students the opportunity to talk in public or help plan a team assembly from ' behind the wings'.
We also support students with any concerns they might wish to talk about; we have a number of student ambassadors who are there to lend an ear through mentoring younger students.
I have an open door policy and a deputy [Ms Ackerley]. Between us we are constantly looking for ways to improve the systems and support the staff and students in Alexandria.
Our designated charity is Teenage Cancer Trust. We have raised over £4000 since adopting this very important charity and we have a relationship with the charity that shows exactly how the money we raise is spent. This buys into our ethos and helps students to truly appreciate that some people need the kind of support we like to offer.
Overall I am incredibly proud to be a Head of College and proud of the staff and students in Alexandria. Please let me know if there are any ways that you feel we could move things forward even more.
