MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES

My name is Ms Jones and I am the Fortismere Mental Health Champion. Mental health can be a barrier to young people succeeding in school.  I want Fortismere to be a safe haven for our students; where positive mental health is promoted, where students are taught to look after themselves well, but also somewhere that normalises asking for help if things are not ok.

For some students, taking regular exercise, eating well and getting enough sleep will not be enough and I want to help them realise that much like their physical health, everyone will have ups and downs and that sometimes you can’t deal with things yourself.

We are fortunate to have a range of mental health support available in school. This includes drop-in counselling sessions with Place2Talk, regular 1:1 appointments with Place2Be, cognitive behavioural therapy through the NHS Trailblazers programme and a counsellor and therapist who work with lower school students and sixth formers.

If students feel like they need some extra support they can speak to me, their tutor or their head of year.  They can also contact the Place2Be counsellor, Nu Robinson in school.

Parents and carers can email me with any questions about mental health support  ejones@fortismere.org.uk, or email Place2Be counsellor Nu Robinson at nrobinson@fortismere.org.uk.
