2009 January - June Award Winners

Hannah Johnson
January - Nominated for her outstanding efforts and support in Drama productions

'I have always been passionate about the arts and hope to make a career within it in the future. I have been lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to take a production of Patrick Marber's re-write of the Moliere classic, Don Juan in Soho, up to Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2009. This is a result of a successful A level exam production that, through the enthusiasm and dedication of myself and other cast members, lives on. I am an integral part of this newly formed company called N10 Productions (made up of staff and students) and am extremely excited to help produce, direct and perform in a professional show that brings Fortismere's name in to the public eye.

The £200 award will be spent on important promotional material for the show. We hope to distribute approximately 5000 flyers and posters throughout the festival period to publicise the show. Eye-catching, colour, double sided flyers are expensive to reproduce, however, this provides the means to get 'bums on seats'! This award will hopefully mean that Edinburgh town is plastered with Don Juan in Soho artwork.

This money and any further funding could ensure the future of our production company with the intention of taking future Fortismere productions to other arts festivals around the UK.'

Suzanna Fairbairns
February - Nominated for her outstanding efforts for School Council and supporting student voice.

Lilly Orme
March - Nominated for running and creating and extra curricular club for cheer leading.

Ekin Pehlivan
April - Nominated for being an excellent role model to others in and around the library!

Pedro De Freitas
May - Nominated for his inspirational attitude, a shining example to others.

I was really surprised when I got a letter home saying that I had won a Jack Petchey Award. I was ecstatic that I had not only won this award, but to know that I had been nominated to receive such a prestigious award, for being an 'inspirational student' by Ms Conneta who has supported me through a difficult tie in my life. It has made me feel privileged to know that my efforts had been recognised by her and also to know that she chose me amongst other equally deserving individuals.
I believe I got the Jack Petchey award because I have shown that despite numerous health problems throughout my life, I am a highly focused determined young person with a high drive to succeed in everything I undertake in life. I believe in looking forward and trying to look at the positive things when things are looking less favourable. I strive to get a good education and be the best that I can be.

Matthew Van Mol-Jones
June - Nominated for his leadership of the Yr 10 football team , who won the league this year.
