Work Related Learning

General overview & picture:
A wide-ranging programme of activities, culminating in a 1 week work experience placement in Year 10, enables all students to learn about the world of work, and equips them with the skills and qualities necessary to help the transition towards adult and working life.
Guest speakers and visits help to identify links between school studies and the workplace.
Year 12 students choose a suitable work placement to support their UCAS application. We work closely with our local education business provider (EBP), parents and students to match student's aspirations and career choices with suitable placements.
 In school we have 2 dedicated posts in KS4 and KS5 to advise on careers future educational opportunities.

KS3
All departments are encouraged to discuss the relationship between their subject and the world of work.

KS4
Students embark on an intensive program for Work Related Learning.
This is a taught program in preparation for work experience, led by the English department.
A 1 week work experience.
A careers fair in the summer term.

Post 16
All students are encouraged to seek an appropriate work experience placements to support their UCAS application. Our dedicated careers specialist works closely with all students giving guidance on careers and university access. Students are encouraged to take up enrichment courses in the school holidays such as Headstart.

Extra Curricular
There are many activities which link the world of work and school studies.
The Duke of Edinbrough award scheme.
The Engineering Education Scheme, Go4SET
STEM subject enrichment programmes (science, technology, engineering and maths).
Artist in residence.
Drama and Music productions.
