Information and Communication Technology

General overview & picture:
The ICT department offers a stimulating and dynamic learning environment using the most up to date software and creative technologies available. High tech classrooms, with interactive whiteboards and high spec peripherals enable students to excel in a multimedia rich society. 

The ICT curriculum offered at Fortismere is designed to give an in depth knowledge and a wide range of ICT skills. Excellent results and high expectations of success reflect the increased popularity of ICT, with many students now going on to read Computer Science and ICT related courses at universities, including the Russell Group.

The accolade of Specialist Status as a Computing College confirms the transformational change ICT has undergone in recent years at Fortismere, as well as enabling a Community programme of classes and seminars for Primary feeder schools and for the wider community keen to develop their skills in areas such as Web design or video editing.  In addition, the ICT department make extensive use of the school's online Learning Platform.  The online Learning Platform is an integral component to all ICT teaching and learning, the students' experience of ICT as a result is significantly enhanced with modern day 21st Century resources and activities.

KS3
Over the three years in Key Stage 3, students' experience a wide range of software applications in a given context.  The range of ICT skills students develop are directly transferable across the whole of their subject disciplines, enabling them to directly apply their ICT capability from image manipulation, modelling, data handling, animation, presentation, publishing and web editing.

KS4
ICT is an option subject where students can opt to take a single (worth two GCSEs) or double (worth four GCSEs) option, the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA).  This is an innovative paperless qualification where students learn how to Project Manage, Design, Develop and continually reflect on their Digital Products.  The units offered are Using ICT, Multimedia, Graphics and Game Authoring.

Post 16
The single and double award Applied ICT A-level is offered as options to students.  Students develop problem solving skills to deal with complex spreadsheets and databases as well as multimedia rich proficiency.  The qualification is paperless; students present their work in e-portfolios they make themselves.  Students' have gone on to study Computer Science, Business and ICT, Multimedia degrees having studied Applied ICT A-level.

Extra Curricular
The ICT department run regular lunchtime clubs and after school revision surgeries.  The department is also involved in arranging guest speakers from industry and universities, as well as trips to conferences. The department also hold annual competitions such as designing posters for School Drama Productions and a number of entries are entered for the annual 'Doodle for Google' competition.
